A huge part of why Coffin Skate Shop exists today is because of community. One of our values as a shop is to be inclusive for everyone who steps through our doors. Over the past three years, we have welcomed folks from all walks of life through roller derby, roller discos, and queer-focused events.
However, one aspect that we recognize needs works is our inclusivity towards the black and indigenous community. We have been listening and learning in the past few months. We acknowledge that we are in a privileged position as white people, and are ready and eager to get going to help in any way we can. To start, we are partnering up with the Magic Project to fundraise to win a pair of Moxi Lolly roller skates!
The Magic Project, created by Emma Paulson and Kate Macdonald, aims to challenge stereotypes while increasing the visibility of marginalized people. The Magic Project aims to bring the voices and experiences of marginalized communities to the forefront of social media and community discussion and break down stereotypes of oppressed communities using photography. Since their beginning, the Magic Project has hosted events such as Black Kings are Magic, Disabilities have Magic, Transparent, and more.
We are stoked to have the Magic Project working with us!
